Max Murphy Large

 

Maxwell Murphy was a state and national boxing champion.

Max was trained by well-known trainer and manager ‘Dealer’ Wells, and by 1951 he had nine contests for eight wins. Max showed his class by twice defeating Abbie Tranby, the North Queensland Champion.

Max won the NSW and Australian Featherweight Titles in 1958. He defeated Johnny Famechon, who shortly afterwards won the World Featherweight Title.

During his 77 recorded bouts, he was never knocked off his feet.
