Ron Lord was an international football (soccer) goalkeeper, recognised as one of the finest Australia ever produced.
He made his career debut as a junior outfielder with Rozelle when he was 17, and was was a fullback for Drummoyne in the NSW competition before becoming goalkeeper. Ron played for Auburn for several years, and renowned club Sydney Prague. Ron won three consecutive NSW premierships from 1959-1961, four Ampol cups and a premiership grand final in 1959.
Ron was a member of the first Australian national football team to take part in a major tournament when he kept goal at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. He represented his country 15 times and represented NSW 35 times, playing a total of 399 First Division games.
After retiring Ron became a specialist goalkeeping coach, mostly with National Soccer League clubs.
In 1999, Ron was inducted into the Football Federation Australia Hall of Fame. Ron is one of the most respected goalkeepers and regarded by the football community as one of the best of his generation.
